Alright, well welcome to my first post/issue/Newsletter/blogspot(?)/xanga! <_<
A lot of things that have happened since March 1st (also my birthday):
Started Design for The Web with Perpetual.Education
Found out I have to move at the end of the month (4 days from now)
Got my first dose of the Covid Vax
Do you consider yourself a designer?
At this point not necessarily. I feel like I’ve still got a ways to go. The journey currently has been awesome. We pretty much made a barebones 4 page website yesterday. I started with Sublime Text, and then started writing the code through there. I was learning syntax, indentation, spacing, and then understanding how the code from the text editor translates to the webpage for different browsers.
The service industry is sorta comparable to designing. A customer comes in, they tell you what they want from a list of options and it’s my job to make sure they get that finished product. Pretty comparable right? At least in coffee there’s a little bit of creative freedom. I can give them a heart, a rosetta…
But even that world has it’s limits. The cool thing about designing is how creative you get to be. One thing I’ve noticed since I started dftw is how doubtful I am. I never want to submit something unless it’s perfect. Especially if other people are going to see it. I’ve learned that I’d rather show what I’m working with so at least other people can see where my head’s at and also weigh in with any suggestions, and then we can go from there. Not sure how well that model’s going to translate once people are paying a lot of money (if any, loll) but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
I’m very optimistic for what’s to come in the next 5 months. In just 1 month so much has already happened…it’ll be amazing to see what happens in 5.
